好吧. 看在他們竟把Mike Piazza唱進去了,於是再把新專輯多聽兩遍. 其實也沒那麼難聽啦. 雖然"如砂糖融入奶油蛋糕般"甜美滑嫩的旋律不見了,編排似乎仍千篇一律,當作背景音樂聽一邊上網還是很舒服的.

Piazza曾經隨洛杉磯道奇隊來台灣參加表演賽. 那年我才剛開始接觸美國職棒,當時未成氣候的Pedro Martinez好像也有來. (有誰記得西元幾年的事嗎?)

今年春訓(2004)這位當代打擊能力最強的捕手開始改練一壘,祝他一帆風順!

這首歌到底在說啥? 據說Mike Piazza本人已經澄清自己性向,而紐約當地
報紙"New York Observer"有一段看法:

Mr. Piazza’s orientation is the unlikely topic of a new song
on the upcoming album from that band of Scottish eccentrics,
Belle & Sebastian. The album, Dear Catastrophe Waitress, features
a song called "Piazza, New York Catcher," which, according to
press materials, is a tribute to Belle & Sebastian founder and
vocalist Stuart Murdoch's "deep love of baseball." The bare-bones
love song is performed by Mr. Murdoch, addressed to a woman. He
suggests that she accompany him to San Francisco to watch the
Giants play the Mets.

The song then addresses Mr. Piazza, asking outright, "New York
catcher, are you straight or are you gay?"

In a later verse, Mr. Murdoch could be referring to his female
companion or to the baseball player:
"We hung about the stadium we’ve got no place to stay
We hung about the Tenderloin and tenderly you say
About the saddest ending of a book you ever had to read …"
